New Photos in Old Clothes
"La Serenissima--Images of Venice" showing at Cornwall Public Library, March 1-April 24.
This show is an attempt to explore illustrative techniques of the past through modern-day digital processing. The main models for these images have been the 19th century watercolors that would have been produced by many competent amateurs in their travels, as well as the engravings to be found in early tourist guidebooks. A further sequence of images draw on the restricted color palette of late 19th century postcards that used the "Photochrom" process to colorize black & white photographs.
